North Arran Way Village Centre

What is happening?
The North Arran Way Village Centre will be situated in the heart of Smiths Wood. The new Village Centre will be developed in separate phases and will include a new primary school, community facilities, a new high street, new shops and offices. Later phases will include health care facilities and residential properties.
Progress so far
The New Primary School, Smiths Wood Community Primary School was completed in March 2009. The new building was also designed to incorporate the Smith's Wood Parish Council community facilities.
A new road has been built linking Auckland Drive and Windward Way through the existing Kingfisher Drive.
Demolition of two tower blocks, Nuffield House and Worchester House in early 2010.
Following extensive consultation with the Community and stakeholders on the public realm and phase 1 (retail and offices), a planning application was submitted which was then approved in July 2011.
Next steps
Construction of Phase 1 is likely to commence late 2011 to be completed by the end of 2012. With construction of the High Street Public Realm programmed to start in summer 2012.
A residential scheme is being developed for northern section of the high street on the former site of Nuffield House and Worchester House. We are hoping to consult on proposals for this phase in spring 2012.
Detailed proposals will be brought forward in the future for the medical facilities and assisted living phases. Any proposals coming forward will be subject to consultation with the local community and stakeholders prior to any application being made.
